Second!

In another reference to the palest bike racer in Portland, co-worker and nacho-eater Dean Tracy beat me to the punch to post about the latest craze to hit our fair Stumptown. In a night filled with drama, drinking, and drag racing, Dean managed some sort of tie with the actual first place winner and weaseled his way into a custom Ira Ryan frame. You can read about Rapha's roller race right here.

Highlights from the BG camp include getting beaten by the eventual 2nd place rider twice (that would be Dean), and in a surprise turn of events, getting beaten by my very own asian assistant, one Ping Pong Tsai. That's right, Ping Pong advanced furthest of all the BG riders there, and even beat my best time of the night, proving that white gloves and custom cross bikes don't make necessarily make you fast. Who knew?

Next on Fox: When Cats Get Surgery

So my cat was operated on for cancer, and while it's a bummer that she's sick, it makes for some good blogging. For example:

-She has a cone around her head and a drainage tube, so she can't lick herself clean. You know how bad cats smell when they can't clean themselves?

-Drinking water and then using the litter box with that cone on doesn't work. It's like dipping an ice cream cone into sprinkles.

-My four other cats are now really scared of her. They're hissing at her like some kind of she's some kind of alien set to take over the scratching posts.

In blogging news, everybody is talking about the handbuilt bike show and all the events going on with that. I don't get what the big deal is, I've pretty much got a handbuilt bike show right in my garage every day. It's cool to see new stuff out there though. Nate and Matt have had their bikes in the shop the past couple days. Check out some pictures here.

A blog without pictures is like a cat with a cone around her head, so here's a sneak preview:

Boonen wins another

But could Boonen win the kermesse this Sunday at PIR? I mean that race is just hard. When I first heard about it, I thought it was my chance to win a race every month of the year. But I've been out to the first two and I still haven't converted. It's easy when you're out there with your full quickstep team working it for you, in beautiful sunny Qatar working on your tan. But try going out to PIR with small but strong fields, crappy weather, and nothing but thoughts of a warm shower making you ride faster. Could Boonen win in those situations?

My odds for Boonen winning the kermesse on Sunday: 1/3

Not vanilla enough

Co-worker and pool boy Dean Tracy's blog has been pretty sparse since he returned from his trip to befriend a Kangaroo. See his latest here.

I'm really not a fan of the "funny picture off the internet" style post. Why even bother? But this involves a cat, no, two cats doing something funny. But it's nothing I don't see my cats do every other day, so I'm not that impressed.

Dean, try harder next time.
